The devotion a canine shows to its owner is unlimited, and it goes both ways. Fomented and cultivated over a millennium, the relationship between humans and different dog breeds the world over is one of a kind. Especially compared to the rest of the animal kingdom. Some owners don’t have the budget for one of the more popular and in-demand dog breeds. There are lesser-known, yet just as beautiful and loving as other breeds, like the Goldendoodle, which is often overlooked. They just simply have less publicity and media coverage which prevents them from getting noticed. Not all dogs are created equal in terms of cost which is why it is vital to research before you decide on the type of dog you want. This article will touch on some of the lesser-known dog breeds that cost a lot less.

Goldendoodle

The Goldendoodle is a fluffy crossbreed of a poodle and a golden retriever. This breed of dog is intelligent, energetic, trainable, and friendly. Male Goldendoodles are around 61-66cm at shoulder length while females are around 56-58cm at the shoulder. When purchasing a Goldendoodle, you need to source from a reputable Goldendoodle breeder because this will determine the quality of the dog. You are looking at spending between $2,000-$3,000 depending on the size as well as the generation that you want. Before even considering this dog, you need to do a fair amount of research. These dogs are native to Australia but are also popular in the United States.

Foxhound 

The foxhound is a large hunting hound dog that has very strong hunting instincts. This breed is intelligent, kind, loyal, loving, sweet-tempered, and independent. They typically grow up to 22-255 inches tall and weigh around 45-65 pounds. These dogs are considered one of the cheapest dog breeds in the world and if you are looking to purchase one, it will only cost you about $500-$700. Chihuahua 

The Chihuahua is one of the smallest breeds of dogs in the world and they are known for their aggressive nature.  Surprisingly, they have one of the longest lifespans of 12-20 years and their personality is aggressive, devoted, alert, lively, courageous, and quick. These tiny dogs will not grow larger than 2kg and if you’re looking to purchase one of these tiny live wires, you will be spending about $800 on a puppy. Chihuahuas originate in Mexico and are named after a Mexican city called Chihuahua. Some theories even claim that Chihuahuas have ancient roots in Egypt or Sudan and then migrated across the ocean to Mexico.

Beagle

The beagle is a small breed of the hound family. These dogs were originally developed for hunting and their temperament is intelligent, amiable, excitable, determined, even-tempered, and gentle. The average height of a male beagle is between 36-41cm while the average height for a female is 33-38cm. This breed is very affordable at $550 however, if you are looking to purchase a beagle from a prize lineage, you can expect to pay anything up to $6,000. Their place of origin is the United Kingdom however their ancestry goes back to 5th-century Ancient Greece.

Dachshund 

Known as the weiner dog, the dachshund is most recognizable by its long back and short legs. These dogs are clever, stubborn, playful, devoted, independent, courageous, and lively and they are usually around 5-9 inches in height. On average, you can expect to pay around $500-$1,000 for one of these dogs depending on where you source your dog. This dog breed has origins in Germany however you can find breeders in France and England as well. 

English bulldog 

Finally, we have the English bulldog which is a muscular dog with a distinct wrinkly face. These dogs are wilful, docile, gregarious, and friendly. English bulldogs grow between 31-40 cm in height on average and they are priced on the more expensive side, at about $1,500-$4,000. As the name suggests, these dogs originated in England and their initial role was to provide entertainment with a sport called dog-baiting that was incredibly popular during the middle ages but was later outlawed.

Popular dogs that are expensive aren’t the only dog breeds that are deserving of love and attention. The dogs on this list might be less popular and more affordable however they are a great investment if you are looking to add some love and life to your home.
